Goals

Published on January 1, 2016, by in Update.

I told you I’d be back with my goals. I’ve done month long detoxes, 3 day diets, and all sorts of other plans. Some stuck for longer than others, but none of them lasted. So what is my plan for this year? Moderation. I’m following a healthy eating plan that allows treats. I even stayed within my parameters last night when we went out to eat and had cocktails. It was great. I was in control. So what am I doing today? Dialing it back a little. I’m a huge Iowa Hawkeye fan and today is the Rose Bowl. I could be at a bar with an all I can drink special and a buffet of unhealthy foods. I’m not. I’m watching the game from home, confit ably in my pajamas andtreating myself to a little good charcuterie, lots of water, fruit and vegetables. And I’m happy with that…I’m in

2016…it’s going to be big

Published on December 30, 2015, by in Uncategorized.

Wow. It’s been more than 6 months since I have last blogged. To be honest, I needed a break; 2016 will be my 12th year of blogging and that is a long time.   So much happened since I last sat down and wrote. One of the year’s highlights was my second niece was born! We did a lot of traveling. I mean a lot. So. Much. Travel. But it was amazing and I loved every minute with family and friends.   We also had new adventures in Chicago. Brian went to his first ever Bears game. I took up pottery on the wheel. Now we have more hand thrown pottery than we will never need. And did a lot of baking, cooking, and drinking some green smoothies. So, that brings us to today. Literally. Beautifully snowy today.   So what is going to happen from here on out? I

How is it going?

Published on January 3, 2014, by in Uncategorized.

It’s day 3 of the New Year. How is everyone doing on their resolutions? I’m doing ok. I have had a complete lack of motivation to do much cooking lately. It’s horrible. I make my meal plan, but never want to execute it. Instead, I just throw together something simple and eat that. Not the worst thing, but I need to have a big cooking day. Last night my plan was to make a batch of macro bowls. This is what I ate instead: Don’t get me wrong, it was an incredibly delicious veggie wrap, but the point of making the bowls was that then I would have leftovers to pack for my lunch today. Instead, I scrambled around the kitchen this morning to make something work. I saw this article by Mark Bittman(love him) on sustainable resolutions. I really liked it. We are human and will have hiccups here

The year of the big snow

Published on January 2, 2014, by in Update.

After ringing in 2014 with friends, we walked home in the snow. We woke up to more snow. It’s still snowing. I started off the new year with a hot breakfast of and egg, spinach and sriracha wrap, banana and coffee. And a decision to make. To run a 5k or head to my warm and cozy gym. For the past 4 years, I have done the New Year’s Day 5k. The weather is always horrible. Every year, I vow to not do it the next year, but I always end up signing up again. It’s a great way to start the year(theoretically). It was very cold(windchill in the single digits) and snowing sideways yesterday at the start of the race. It had been snowing so much that there really wasn’t a cleared path for the race. There were times that we running single file in the person’s foot steps

New Year’s Resolutions 2014

Published on December 31, 2013, by in Update.

When looking at how I want to become a better person and improve my life in 2014, I looked back at the past two years. In 2012, I made a lot of dietary changes. In 2013, I was going to cut back on the sugar in my diet and mix up my workout routine. I’ve actually done a fair job of sticking to many of the dietary changes from 2012 and can’t believe that I cut fake sweeteners out of my life 2 years ago! Last year’s goal of cutting back on sugar had its ups and downs. Once I get away from sugar for a few days, I don’t do so bad. But when I do have it, I want more and more. As for working out, I did diversify my work outs a bit. I have started to retrain myself in running, spent more time on the elliptical,
