A few highlights from the month of August: Brian and I ran the Elvis 5K at the beginning of August. While neither of us are where we want to be with our running yet, our times had improved from the previous 5K. After the 5K, we showered and got ready to met Aaron who was in town for some meetings. The meeting of Aaron and Brian turned into a draw-off. A Justin Bieber draw-off to be exact.
I’ve been missing for a bit. I did some traveling and had many a social outing. I won’t have time to blog until (hopefully) tomorrow night. Here’s something to look at until I get a chance to write…cheese and licorice and pb&j, oh my.
After getting off work and going for a quick run on Friday I headed down town to start my busy weekend. Friday night Brian and I went to Xoco for dinner and to see Inception. Xoco is Rick Bayless’s “little sister” restaurant to Topolobampo and Frontera that serves Mexican street food. If you hear “street food” and think cheap, fast, greasy and fatty, you are wrong. Very wrong. For being there on a Friday evening we got seated quickly and… outside! Don’t be discouraged by a somewhat short menu. It’s quality not quantity. We started with chips and salsa which come with fresh-made chips and a 3-chile salsa and a tomatillo salsa. The tomatillo salsa won my heart over with a strong cilantro flavor. Then we each ordered a torta and went halvzies(one of my favorite things to do. It’s like getting to order two things). Brian got the woodland mushroom torta(wood-roasted garlic mushrooms, Prairie Fruits
Ok, so that’s a lie. I’m sure at some point in my life I will buy another jar of pickles. However, the refrigerator pickles I made two days ago are AMAZING! They taste like mildly pickled/marinated cucumbers with amazly fresh flavor. They are very crisp and don’t have that overly salty flavor. I don’t imagine the jar lasting more than a few days in my fridge. Which is fine, because they super easy to make. I might have to have a rotating schedule on which I make them so I am never waiting a day for them to be ready. If you haven’t made them yet and you like pickles, you are missing out on the best pickle of your life.
