After ringing in 2014 with friends, we walked home in the snow.
We woke up to more snow. It’s still snowing.
I started off the new year with a hot breakfast of and egg, spinach and sriracha wrap, banana and coffee. And a decision to make. To run a 5k or head to my warm and cozy gym.
For the past 4 years, I have done the New Year’s Day 5k. The weather is always horrible. Every year, I vow to not do it the next year, but I always end up signing up again. It’s a great way to start the year(theoretically). It was very cold(windchill in the single digits) and snowing sideways yesterday at the start of the race. It had been snowing so much that there really wasn’t a cleared path for the race. There were times that we running single file in the person’s foot steps in front of you. The snow was very powdery and slippery. There were times where I felt like I was running but going no where, it was difficulty to propel yourself forward. The cups of water at the water station froze. In short, it was the most brutal race I have ever run. The good is that I probably have my worst run of the year out of the way. Oh, and my time was terrible, so I can only improve my times in 2014.
People skiing past us as we ran:
Snow covered and completely frozen bananas given out at the end of the race:
Not an enjoyable run.
After running in the weather, I decided that I got to reward myself by lounging on the couch for the rest of the day. A glorious day of reading food magazines and watching bowl games.
Today, I woke up to this out of my front door.
We are to get another 6 inches today of lake effect snow.
I love it! It looks like a snow globe outside.
Stay safe and warm Chicago!
