New Year’s Resolutions 2014

Published on December 31, 2013, by in Update.

When looking at how I want to become a better person and improve my life in 2014, I looked back at the past two years.

In 2012, I made a lot of dietary changes. In 2013, I was going to cut back on the sugar in my diet and mix up my workout routine. I’ve actually done a fair job of sticking to many of the dietary changes from 2012 and can’t believe that I cut fake sweeteners out of my life 2 years ago! Last year’s goal of cutting back on sugar had its ups and downs. Once I get away from sugar for a few days, I don’t do so bad. But when I do have it, I want more and more. As for working out, I did diversify my work outs a bit. I have started to retrain myself in running, spent more time on the elliptical, went to yoga more and started taking Zumba classes.

2013 is going to be incredibly heard to beat. It sounds weird to say out loud or rather type, but I’m at a really good place in my life. I’ve started saying “no” more and only surround myself with positive people who make my life better. I have little to no drama. I’ve also made an effort to not just be busy. I used to think that being busy meant that I was doing something, but it doesn’t. I take time for myself and don’t feel guilty when I just hang out on the couch. It’s amazing and important for being healthy. Sleep has become a priority. Top all that off by getting married to the love of my life and taking an unreal trip to Iceland. Here are some highlights from 2013.

Wow. What an amazing ride. I can’t wait to see what 2014 has in store.

The name of the game this year is consistency.

I’m going to continue to try to improve on my consistency with working out and running. It’s something I want to do for the rest of my life, so I need to listen to my body. If I’m having knee pain, I need to back off and not push harder to the finish line. I want to continue to mix up my workout routine. I enjoy Zumba and would like to continue with one class a week. I also want to make it to yoga once a week. I’m currently working on a training plan to be able to do some longer distance races again this year.

The end of the year was busy with back to back events. Spatoola got neglected. I want to blog at least twice a week in 2014.

I also want to work in some travel this year. Definitely to spend time with family and to go somewhere I have never been before.

What are looking forward to in 2014?

Love it! It was a great year indeed friend! I am always so impressed by your commitment – when you pledge to do something, you wive it 110%! I have no doubts that you’ll reach this years goals too!

  2. Great post! I can relate in many ways. It was fun running into you guys over Christmas. Funny story – after you guys left I told Doug that you were the two that went to Iceland and he goes “Oh yeah! I know them!” 🙂 I kept showing him all of your pictures as you posted them on your honeymoon – we thought that was very cool trip. Happy New Year!

    • Ha ha. That’s really funny. My dad also “knows” Doug because Jim Farr told him about how Doug cleaned off his driveway. Iceland it amazing. You guys would love it.
