When looking at how I want to become a better person and improve my life in 2014, I looked back at the past two years. In 2012, I made a lot of dietary changes. In 2013, I was going to cut back on the sugar in my diet and mix up my workout routine. I’ve actually done a fair job of sticking to many of the dietary changes from 2012 and can’t believe that I cut fake sweeteners out of my life 2 years ago! Last year’s goal of cutting back on sugar had its ups and downs. Once I get away from sugar for a few days, I don’t do so bad. But when I do have it, I want more and more. As for working out, I did diversify my work outs a bit. I have started to retrain myself in running, spent more time on the elliptical,
I didn’t take any pictures of food at Christmas. Can you believe it? We had a really delicious meal of turkey breast, cranberry sauce, the best stuffing recipe I’ve ever made, cheesy hash brown potatoes and green bean casserole. I know it sounds more like Thanksgiving dinner, and maybe it was, but it was delicious! Christmas was pretty much dominated by my adorable niece. She is at a super fun and playful stage where she repeats most of what you say and she is really starting to connect things. She loves books and being read to. Oh, and she gives you a big cheesy smile on command. While making Christmas dinner, my mom and I made sure we had some holiday spirits. On our flight back, we detoured through downtown Chicago and had some amazing views. I hope everyone had as great and as relaxing of a holiday as I
I have been struggling to return to healthy eating lately. There are far too many delicious holiday temptations, not to mention more social occasions and drinks. I feel like I am having a good and fairly consistent week this week. I have increased my intake of fruits and vegetables and decreased the crap. I can really feel the difference. Hopefully I can keep this up, but it will be hard with Christmas next week. Last night for dinner I had the opportunity to use my much lusted after GEFU spiralizer. While a bit expensive for a kitchen gadget, I think I will get a lot of use out of it. I spiralized one small zucchini. While I was doing that, I sauteed some mushrooms in about a teaspoon of grass fed butter, salt and pepper. I also heated up a little marinara sauce I had on hand. When the
There are 17 more days until Christmas. Is your shopping done? If not, here are some great ideas to help you out. For the person who really loves to create in the kitchen, get them a life changing Vitamix. I use mine almost daily to make everything from sorbets to soups and a lot of green smoothies. I absolutely adore wood serving pieces. I recently got several as wedding and shower gifts and have already put them to good use. They are great for serving appetizers, cheese, bread or even roasts. This is a great one from Williams Sonoma similar to one I have. I ran across Le Creuset’s flame skinny grill pan at Sur la Table. I love that it’s a slightly smaller size and only takes up one burner. How can you pass up all the great colors it comes in? A more budget friendly find at only
I don’t normally promote products, but I saw this and thought it was TOO cute not tell you about. It would have been on my Thursday things post yesterday, if I would have seen it before today. How adorable is this kids infinity scarf? So reasonably priced, too! Go check out all the cute things at HerJoyfulStudio! I can’t get over it! What a great print. Perfect for a boy or girl! Would look amazing on any kid in a Christmas card.
Where has the Thursday Things series been? Honeymooning and holidaying. It’s back today, but I am toying with the idea of making it the Friday Five and focus on 5 categories each week. What do you guys think? I’m not a big fan of sweet drinks and I know that a red cocktail is a no-no at a party, but I couldn’t resist how festive this cranberry margarita looked. I want one! A perfect finger food to enjoy while sipping that drink? These Nutty blue cranberry rounds. Cheese and nuts are always a winning combination! The dessert at my grandparent’s Christmas dinner was always ice cream. They would usually have 2-3 flavors and I would always go for the peppermint stick. That memory really makes me want to make this: Every year my mom used to make Christmas candies to take to the teachers at his school. I remember her
